The World is battling an unprecedented public health crisis that has claimed more than one million human lives and has caused tremendous economic damage. Digital technologies play a critical role in the fight against this global emergency as medical professionals rely on telemedicine, telehealth, and other digital platforms for disease prevention and treatment. However, not everyone has access to technology, and this digital gap restricts access to healthcare to lower-income and rural communities, despite the pandemic affecting them disproportionally. In charting the path to recovery and the future of healthcare delivery, policy makers must analyze existing solutions that can accelerate digital infrastructure deployment and utilization of digital platforms and applications to reach underserved communities. Looking at the pressing need to address these challenges, this report sets out to examine practical solutions in two sections that can be used to provide high speed internet in remote areas and deploy a cloud-based hospital information system (HIS) that can be accessed from anywhere, anytime.
